He has developed a niche for representing insurance companies in workers’ compensation insurance coverage matters and disputes. John also has experience with a variety of injury by accident cases and occupational disease claims, including psychological and asbestosis claims. His many years of experience have given him an institutional understanding of the workers’ compensation and insurance coverage system unique to North Carolina, which is invaluable to his clients.

John is a certified mediator for workers’ compensation and Superior Court matters and often serves as a consensus builder. Through the benefit of his level-headed nature, he consistently assists lawyers and their clients to settle tough cases.

John’s trial and appellate practice includes appearances before the United States District Courts of North Carolina and Civil Superior and District Courts of North Carolina, as well as regular trial and hearing appearances before the North Carolina Industrial Commission, North Carolina Court of Appeals, and the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Throughout his lengthy career, John’s passion for communication and his natural tendency toward problem solving has been essential in expertly navigating the legal field. John was born in Syracuse, NY, grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and moved to North Carolina as a young adult where he quickly became a Tar Heel. He follows Carolina sports and Cubs baseball and enjoys sharing those past times with his wife and two children, all of whom are Tar Heels. When he’s not reading a legal brief, he picks up a good non-fiction or historical novel. John and his family love to travel, particularly to Europe, and appreciate every landscape, from the mountains to the beach.
